The light
shines in the darkness,
but the darkness has not
understood it.

John introduces the dualism into Christian understanding as part
of it. There is "light" and there is "darkness" at the same time.
Definitely this is not the continuation of the Pharisee Law and not
Judaism as well and not of their one dimension materialism of facts
finding realism by law and Mosaic "eye-to-eye" reasoning of the Middle
Eastern terms.
There is a new beginning here. We see the Christ message is breaking
out from the Middle East and taking off to another level of understanding
carrying the Jesus-magnet away from the isolation of Pharisee law and
its materialism.
